TUF Live Finale results: Max Holloway batters Pat Schilling in lopsided decision win
LAS VEGAS – Pat Schilling looked for an early takedown against Max Holloway. When he couldn’t get it, the fight was virtually over.Holloway dominated Schilling on the feet while peppering him with body shots that continued to take any wind out of his sails, and he cruised to a unanimous-decision victory. The featherweight fight took place at The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. It aired on the FX-televised main card following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.
At times, it appeared as if Schilling might not be able to get up off the canvas – or might not even want to get up off the canvas. But Holloway consistently was glad to let Schilling back up after stuffing his opponent’s takedown attempts – and on the feet, he worked jabs and body shots with ease and mixed in a few kicks for good measure.
With about a minute left in the fight, Holloway bloodied up Schilling with a right hand and a few shots on the ground. Holloway even tried to kick off the cage, a la Anthony Pettis. But though Schilling landed a small handful of shots down the stretch, as well as a couple earlier in the fight, they were never enough to have Holloway in any kind of trouble.
Holloway landed 73 percent of his body shots, according to FightMetric, and he swept the judges’ scorecards with 30-27 scores.
“I just wanted to show I belong in the UFC and I wanted to get back here,” Holloway, from Hawaii, said. “I’m still a baby. I’m just going to keep training hard and hopefully come back for a long time.”
Schilling (5-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who took his UFC debut on just 10 days’ notice in January, dropped his second straight since signing with the promotion. Holloway, who was submitted by Dustin Poirier in his promotional debut at UFC 143 in February, picked up his first UFC win.
